Adjunct Instructor

American Government - Adjunct Instructor

Description and Responsibilities

The adjunct at TEL serves two purposes, one administrative and the other pedagogical. From an administrative perspective, the adjunct provides the Curriculum Vitae and professional experience required to meet the qualifications established by accrediting bodies. In this role, the adjunct is the official course “Instructor of Record” for TEL Library’s institutional partners looking to “outsource” general education instruction to TEL Library.

In terms of pedagogy, the adjunct functions as the face and public “personal connection” that students have with each course. The adjunct is the face and voice that participants hear at the beginning of the course, through personalized weekly emails, and via personal explanations (using their own unique examples) of important/difficult course concepts. In all of these communications, the adjunct is also a primary source of content relevance for course participants.

  • List of Adjunct Activities
  • Create a 90-second marketing video for our course product page.
  • Create a personal video introduction for the course topic (2-4 minutes).
  • Create a personal course expectations video (3-5 minutes).
  • Respond to student emails within 24 hours.
  • Provide module email notifications.
  • Grade up to 150 assignments per course, per semester.
  • Host 2 special topic tutorials via Zoom. Instructors will identify session topics and times at the beginning of each semester.
  • Host 3 course meet-ups via Zoom (bi-monthly for a 6-month contract). Instructors will identify times at the beginning of each semester.
  • Spotcheck accuracy of teaching assistant grading. Instructors check up to 25 assignments per teaching assistant per course, per semester.
  • Progress monitor up to 150 students per course, per semester. Submit a weekly report to the instructional support team with recommendations for intervention.

Compensation for this position is at $2000 for January 2020 – June 2020 contract.

We are working on refining and developing this model of instruction, the position would be a collaborative effort to create workflow, processes, and job descriptions for future adjuncts. If any additional work needed in the year exceeds the 10 hours in the description we can do an addendum to the contract to make sure you are appropriately compensated at $15/hr.
