PHY 1103: Physical Sciences

This is an introductory course designed to give students an opportunity to explore the basic concepts of physical science. Students will be introduced to the foundations of science, including skills, assumptions, and the role of technology in science. Then, students will learn about matter, atoms, and the periodic table. Students will dive into the chemical side of physical science with an introduction to chemical reactions and the chemistry of carbon and solutions. They will explore motion, forces, work, machines, and energy as well as nuclear energy and thermal energy. Lastly, students will get an introduction to waves, sound, and electromagnetic radiation.

The course provides extensive examples and practice for students to explain and apply concepts. This course does not include a laboratory component.

* Must take with PHY 1111 to meet lab requirements.

Purchasing this course will give you access to TEL’s engaging curriculum by taking courses through TEL Partner Institutions. This course is a college-level course and is available to any student aged 13 or older. You may start this course at your convenience and set your own schedule and pace for completion anytime within the current academic year (August 2019-July 2020).

Students may take up to six courses in an academic year. 

Payment

Continue to the cart and complete your purchase. This will include your course fee of $33 per credit hour and an annual $200 registration fee to your selected college or university.*

After paying your registration fee, you will receive an email that includes links, information, and support for registering with our partner institution.

Course Completion

When you complete your course, you will receive instructions from your institution about requesting an official transcript for your credit.

*The registration fee is paid one time each academic year in which you take courses from one of TEL’s institutional partners.

Additional Requirements

To be eligible for transferable college credit for this course, TEL Library must be able to verify your identity via a government issued photo ID. You will need an ID to complete the proctored mid-term and final examinations, as well as apply for a transcript. You can begin your studies in this course while obtaining the appropriate identification, but you must have the government issued photo ID prior to scheduling the mid-term exam.

This course is delivered fully online and you will be required to have access to a computer, laptop, or web-capable mobile device – along with consistent access to the internet – to access course material and complete assignments.
